Supervisors as Teachers Program

The purpose of the Supervisors as Teachers Program is to support:

  • The ongoing professional development of staff with a supervisory, mentoring or training role;
  • The integration of mentoring, teaching and training skills and abilities into daily work practice;
  • The creation of expert ‘communities of practice’ relating to training within organisations; and
  • Improving training outcomes and training satisfaction.

The Supervisors as Teachers Program is undertaken in a systematic and purposeful manner focusing on the key objectives or outcomes of the training. Participants gain the requisite knowledge, skills and professional abilities to become more effective teachers, trainers and mentors.

The Supervisors as Teachers Program is a competency-based, blended approach to training for the new supervisor and the expert manager wanting to brush up on their skills. Transform strategists deliver face-to-face workshops. Learning is supported with interactive activities, provision of online modules, pod casts, and resources, as well as a purposeful social networking facility. The Supervisors as Teachers Program has been shown to significantly enhance the outcomes of learning for adult learners.

The approach to training is grounded in the theories of situational learning where the locus of learning occurs in the workplace – the practice. As such, learning ‘incidents’ generate greater meaning from actual ‘real’ deliberative practice.

The most effective way to incorporate a newly learned knowledge, skill, or attribute, is to apply it in actual authentic situation within normal work practice, and as far as possible ‘learn’ either directly in the place of practice, or contextualised directly to that place.

Supervision, mentoring and training are essential aspects in the modern workplace and modern management. The ability for organisations to rapidly redeploy or reskill employees, or the effectiveness of an induction training program is determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the trainers. The Supervisors as Teachers Program will ensure that training is effective, efficient and achieves the required outcomes.
